Experience, enjoy, share and proclaim the transforming love of God

Rev Jane's Easter Message

When I was a child, I loved to get Easter eggs, I would usually get 4, from different family members.  I loved the packaging, I loved looking at them……. So much so, that when it got to the school summer holidays and my mum was fed up of dusting them, she would make me open them and share them!  My children were never able to understand this, in fact they never wanted to wait until Easter Day to open them!

Ok, I admit it’s a little odd, but looking gave me pleasure, they brightened up my room.  I enjoyed them.

As we celebrate Easter (for the next 50 days, until Pentecost) do we try to unwrap what Easter means or do we like to keep it neatly packaged to look at?

Alleluia, Jesus is risen!!

He is risen indeed, Alleluia!

This is potentially the most life transforming thing we can say, because if we believe it and apply it to our perspective on life, nothing, absolutely nothing will ever be the same again.

When I looked at my Easter eggs, my experience of them was limited!  When we look at the gospel and we declare the good news that Jesus is Risen, don’t let us limit our experience.  Let us discover what the reality of living with that truth means, in our daily life.

Between Easter and Pentecost, we, as a circuit are inviting you to “Taste and See”. (Look out for the leaflet.)  Taste and See that the Lord is good, come and try new things, see what other churches in the circuit are doing, pop in for coffee and cake. From labyrinth, to flower arranging, from 24-7 prayer to cycling around the circuit, and at RMCC every Wednesday night an opportunity to learn/experience different types of prayer…….let us use these 50 days to deepen our relationship with God and with others, and then on May 20th we will gather as a circuit to celebrate Pentecost in the Benn Hall, and I hope that we will all be able to say

“Alleluia, Jesus is risen, He is risen indeed, Allelulia,” having tasted and seen that the Lord is good.

Happy Easter to you and those you love

PS.  I open my eggs now, well at least before July!!!
